Odds & Ends

From illustrations to typefaces, this page has bits and pieces from different projects I've done over the years.

Some projects are interesting pieces, but don't have enough depth to dedicate a full write-up. They show proficiency in different techniques and technologies.

Illustration

Illustrations are a mix of digital painting and vector work. My main color palettes are bright and contrasting; warm and neutral. Many of them contain a surplus of detail, with many layers to build up the image. I tend towards lineless and non-flat figures due to a background in physical art, but there are a couple of exceptions.

Typography

A few years back, I created a new typface named Stalwart. Stalwart is a transitional typeface with smaller serifs that look like they have eroded over time. Inspired by the city of Boston, I wanted a softer aged look to mimic worn brick.

Javascript

When learning Javascript, I created a clock and weather animation. As the time of day changes, the background color changes from darker to lighter and back again. The weather animation is toggled between the four buttons. The tiled illustrations are done in photoshop and animated with css. More involved is my coding of a game of solitaire. It involves more javascript data structures.

Animation

While the Alien animation project showed afterEffects animation, I also have experience with photoshop animation. My first experience is the bouncing ball animation in which I liked the illustration, but the speed and motion could use work. The flour sack animation, on the other hand has simple graphics, but has a movement and emotion that I'm am proud of.
